Along the road Rijeka – Učka tunnel – Buzet – Trieste (Trst) there is ROČ, a village on the hill.
At the foot of that hill follow the road to HUM, the smallest town in the world.
After approx. 250 m from the crossroad, take the first lane to the right and within 5 min you will reach your holiday house – the country house “Our Istria”.
GRGURINČlĆl – 800 m, “Kolinasi” tavern
ROČ – 1,5 km, post office, grocer’s, supermarket, butcher’s, mill, coffee shop, restaurant… It is situated on the hill, full of rich history, today declared and protected as a historical monument of special importance (mediaeval walls, Roman collection of stone monuments, 3 churches, …) 5 km from Roč there is a tourist spot and Saint Thomas church as well as some other mediaeval ruins (Crni grad (Black town), Beli grad (White town)), south of Roč (2 km) there are some archeological finding of a Roman village from 5lh century.
HUM – 6 km – tavern, gallery… It is the smallest town in the world (22 inhabitants). The road between Roč and Hum is known as the Alley of Glagolitic priests and is the unique memorial to Glagolitic alphabet and Glagolitic priests (11 stone monuments).
KOTLI – 5 km
Tavern, recently discovered by tourists, situated on the river Mirna, waterfalls and pools in limestone. Go or a swim in the river, enjoy the nature, have a walk…
BUZET – 8 km
Surgery, post office, supermarket, shops and other facilities of the town with — inhabitants.
Wild asparagus
If you come in spring – end of March or in April – we will be glad, if you are interested, to take you asparagus picking, wild asparagus being an extremely healthy self-grown plant full of iron, and even show you how to prepare them.
Cycling paths, wine roads
You can discover the cycling paths of Istria, you can visit the “vine roads”, you can walk or hike, ride…
Those who are tired of the teeming streets will become reinforced by this return to the nature.
Adventura
The adventure enthusiasts have a wide choice of extreme sports here: it can be trekking, free climbing, flying (paragliding), speleology or mountain cycling. All these possibilities are available within ten kilometers from the house.
Natural beauty of Istria
If you do not fancy any of these things you can just go and enjoy the natural beauty of Istria. You can visit Zarecje, the Sopot waterfall, Kotli, Hum, Raspadalica, Žbevnica or any of the other little towns with rich history.
Istrian tavern
If you get tired you can visit an Istrian tavern and enjoy the food there. If you want to learn how to prepare an autochthonous dish (minestrone, real homemade bread or sweet, crusty biscuits) your hosts will gladly show you how.
